Our History
The civic association Castrum Thorna began to form at the end of 2014. At that time, archaeologist Martin Kubo approached Turňan resident and civic activist Béla Király, along with another activist and newly elected member of the municipal council Róbert Surovec. After considering several options, these three gentlemen decided to establish a new civic association. As the fourth member of the preparatory committee, Miss Zuzana Trifonová joined us, enriching the founding group with a female element. Soon our ranks were expanded by other volunteers, among whom I would like to mention potter Amália Holíková. The five named were elected at the first general assembly as members of the first board of our civic association, officially registered in the register of civic associations on April 22, 2015.
2015
The year 2015 was the year we officially came into existence, elected our leadership, organized our first events and workdays, and began to put down roots on the Turnian Castle Hill. In August, we managed to organize the inaugural event of the Night of Castles and Ruins at Turnian Castle. In October, we began removing invasive trees.
2016 – 2018
We mainly dealt with removing invasive trees. We established a tradition of organizing events: Night of Castles and Ruins and New Year’s Ascent.
2019
The first construction work on the castle. We were saving the entrance gate of the southern tower.
